IN THE DEAD OF WINTER - A Tribute to David Klein

Ice caps melt.
Ice breakers rust.
Oceans boil and rise one meter -
Violent storms destroy our homes.

Yet, still we love.
We must.
We cling to our life
and stand up in the morning

To resist.

Dave Cline, Washington Sq. Park.......its about loss. Sanitizing real life was something Dave abhorred, from my conversations with him. I guess this is for you Dave--a poem I just wrote tonight. See you on the streets.

IN THE DEAD OF WINTER - 12/16/07

In the dead of winter
Lovers wrap away the frost
Inside their long coats-
Embraced against the wind and moon.

Military bulldozers resist starting
in protest of being heated, maligned,
Forced into combat
to release their violence.

These machines of death
Torture our dreams
Plow furrows in our mind
Blow away the light.

Of course our bicycles complain
-constantly-
of being sideswiped, crumpled, ignored,
Beaten to the ground while

Ice caps melt.
Ice breakers rust.
Oceans boil and rise one meter-
Violent storms destroy our homes.

Yet, still we love.
We must.
We cling to our life
and stand up in the morning

To resist.
